Deputy Mayor of Malang, Ir. H. Sofyan Edi opened the fun walk event together to commemorate World Walking Day

In his speech, the man who is familiarly called Bung Edi said that the World Walking Day activity is part of a movement to invite people to love the environment more. According to him, it is important to invite people to love and care for the environment more as a form of response to climate change that is worrying the world.

"This is a movement to respond to climate change that is happening in the world. Climate change is even one of the topics raised at the G20 which will be held in Indonesia," he said.

In addition, Mr. Edi also added that in responding to climate change we can adapt and mitigate an environmentally friendly lifestyle such as not using excessive fuel. Starting from simple things such as choosing to walk or ride a bicycle, to choosing to use electric vehicles rather than conventional vehicles as an effort to prevent the climate change crisis from happening faster than it should.

"When our environment is good, our work can also be better. It is important for us to educate all parties to protect the environment so that people can live healthier," he added.

On this occasion, Bung Edi did not forget to also convey his condolences for the incident that occurred the previous night in the football match between Arema FC vs Persebaya Surabaya at Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang Regency.

Bung Edi said that the Malang City Government moved quickly in responding to this incident. One of them is by building a crisis center post intended for people who want to find information about the whereabouts of their families who until this news was published, have not been found.

"Prepare all means of information, communication, and operations to help Arema residents who are victims. Especially for bodies that have not been identified, because no identity has been found," he said.

He also asked all parties to coordinate, especially the public to inform if there are family or relatives who have not been found or returned home since the incident last night.

On that occasion, Bung Edi also invited all participants present to take a moment of silence and pray for the victims who passed away in the incident that became a dark note for Indonesian football, especially Malang Raya. (ayu/ram)
