Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – After the Kanjuruhan tragedy, various elements of society empathized and felt deep sorrow. Regarding this, on Thursday night, October 6, 2022, the Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji held a joint prayer in front of the Malang City Hall Office. Not only residents, this moment was also attended by the President of Arema FC, coaches and several players.

Mayor Sutiaji said that in addition to praying for the hundreds of victims who died or were hospitalized, prayers were also offered to the families of the victims to be given fortitude. Through this moment, he also wanted to convey the message that this tragedy was not a riot because there were no clashes between supporters.
"The supporters who died or were injured were triggered by tear gas shots into the stands and caused panic. The victims were mostly due to running out of oxygen, panic and jostling so that many victims fell," added the number one person in the Malang City Government.
According to Sutiaji, this tragedy should not have happened because Malang loves peace, loves football and football is entertainment for the community, from children to the elderly. "The victims were mostly young people and some children under the age of five who of course went to the stadium with their parents," he continued.
"At that time there was no riot, because there was no commotion between supporters. And what we need to convey is that this is a disaster. Secondly, please convey once again that Malang loves peace and does not want that. Tell the world that Malang loves peace and loves football. What is the proof, there was a child who died who was 4 years old. That proves that so far football has been an entertaining and interesting spectacle for families," explained Sutiaji.
To ease the burden of the victims of this tragedy, the Malang City Government has distributed various aid or compensation. Through the Health Service in collaboration with universities, they also provide assistance and deploy a trauma healing team. Mayor Sutiaji also hopes that this tragedy will be the last and that everything will be resolved well soon. (say/ram)
