Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – The Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji ensured that religious tolerance in Malang City is maintained with the conditions. This was conveyed by Sutiaji during his visit to the Church of the Ascension of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Lowokwaru, Wednesday (9/11/2022).

"Ensuring that in the midst of the diverse society of Malang City, Catholic friends here do not experience intimidation and discrimination," he said.
Sutiaji also advised the Catholics present to remain steadfast in maintaining religious tolerance. He also reminded that ahead of the general election (election) to be held in 2024, there is a possibility of friction between groups.
"Don't let momentary interests disturb the harmony between religions in Malang City. Hopefully, the people will not be provoked and later there will be no identity politics that will tear apart the broader interests, namely the interests of the nation," he said again.
He added that the election event is actually an effort by the government to be present in protecting the interests of its people. According to him, the substance of democracy itself is to make all people feel protected by the government. So in this case, for him it is important for the Malang City Government (Pemkot) to accommodate the aspirations of all religious communities in Malang.
Meanwhile, the Vicar General (Vikjen) of the Diocese of Malang, RD. Alfonsus Tjatur Raharso expressed his appreciation for the visit carried out by the Mayor of Malang, Sutiaji. According to him, the condition of religious harmony in Malang City has also been well established, so that Catholics can worship safely and comfortably.
"Hopefully in the future, this kind of gathering can be done routinely, maintained and preserved. In addition, informal opportunities can also be utilized so that deeper dialogue can be carried out," he said. (ayu/ram)
