Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – The National Zakat Agency (Baznas) of Malang City in collaboration with the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI) held an activity to strengthen the zakat management unit (UPZ) and mosques in empowering the community at the Regent Hotel, Malang City, Wednesday (16/11/2022).

The Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji revealed that the management of zakat, infak and alms for the welfare of the people must continue to be developed. In this case, the role of the mosque as the center of Islamic preaching and worship as well as the center of the community's socio-economic must continue to be developed.
"The zakat, infak and alms funds managed by the mosque administrators can be spent, used, and used for the development of the people's economy. Of course, all of that requires transparency," explained Sutiaji.
Mosques also play a role in developing the people's economy. He hopes that the function of mosques can be like in the time of the Prophet. Where through the mosque everything is strengthened, including the people's economy.
"Hopefully, through economic empowerment of the people, in the future no more people will be trapped in debt to loan sharks. "Through economic empowerment of the Ummah, it is hoped that Muslims will become more empowered and not experience poverty which can bring people closer to disbelief," he continued.
In Malang City, he said, the majority of the population is Muslim. So it has great potential for zakat, infak, and sedekah. This potential is a source of economic empowerment that can be utilized for the welfare of the people.
In addition, Sutiaji also hopes that Baznas as the government's partner in the management and distribution of zakat, infak, and sedekah in Malang City, will always be able to be a medium to optimize the collection of these community funds.
"The Baznas Malang City Program can be in line with efforts to prosper the mosque as a center for the community's socio-economy. The goal is how the prosperity of this congregation can be realized," said Sutiaji. (cah/ram)
