Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – The Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji attended the coaching and coordination of zakat, infak and sedekah charity institutions held by the People's Welfare (Kesra) Section of the Malang City Regional Secretariat at the Aria Gajayana Hotel, Tuesday (22/11/2022).
In his speech, Sutiaji emphasized the importance of collaboration between various parties in helping to eradicate poverty in Malang City. According to him, if carried out by various parties, this collaboration will be able to empower people who were previously zakat recipients to become more empowered people.
"We must commit to elevating people who were previously zakat recipients to become zakat givers in the future," he said.
Sutiaji gave an example of collaboration that could start with providing literacy and education. One of the educations that could be done is by optimizing the empowerment of muzaki in creating a micro, small and medium enterprise (UMKM) by collaborating with the Cooperatives, Industry, and Trade Service (Diskoperindag) through training.
In addition, Sutiaji also mentioned the importance of the role of higher education institutions in Malang City in providing education on the empowerment of MSMEs that will be formed later. In addition to transferring skills and knowledge, collaboration can also be done with halal center institutions spread across various universities in optimizing MSME products that will later be sold.
For Sutiaji, this plan, if implemented properly, will be able to help eradicate poverty in Malang City. Because, this program can run sustainably, and not only be able to lift one person from poverty status, but will also be able to empower many other communities. According to him, this is the true meaning of zakat.
"So when we are able to educate, provide literacy and raise those who were initially mustahik to become muzaki, they are able to support their families and their environment, are able to eradicate poverty, that is the true meaning of zakat, not running in place," he added. (ayu/ram)
