Collaboration is Needed in Poverty Alleviation in Malang City

Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – The Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji, encouraged poverty alleviation in Malang City in an inclusive collaborative manner. This was conveyed when attending the 2022 Malang City Poverty Alleviation Regional Coordination Meeting, Thursday (24/11/2022).

"What we must strengthen together is collaboration in handling and eradicating poverty. We need your commitment to carry out treatment to overcome poverty," he said.

The pandemic has increased poverty rates in various regions, including Malang City. The number of poor people in March 2021 was 40,62 thousand people or 4,62 percent. This existing figure is much lower than the provincial and national averages. However, efforts are being made to reduce this figure to achieve the RPJMD target of 3,77 percent.

"The steps taken by the Malang City Government to inventory Malang City's social welfare data with the aim of providing targeted solutions. The compilation of this database is emphasized on data accuracy, time accuracy, result accuracy, and integration of one data," he explained.

Sutiaji also emphasized the importance of accurate data mining in the community to truly describe the economic conditions of the community. Like the Samgepun Basa innovation, he said, it can present factual data and is continuously updated periodically.

"Poverty is our common problem. Let us collaborate and synergize to find and implement solutions," he said.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Mayor of Malang who was also appointed as the Head of the Malang City Poverty Alleviation Coordination Team (TKPK), Ir. H. Sofyan Edi Jarwoko stated in detail that in 2021 the poverty line of Malang City was IDR 570.238,00 per capita/month. Meanwhile, the poverty depth index was 0,87 percent with a poverty severity index of 0,22 percent.

"The data means that the economic conditions of the poor residents of Malang City are increasingly diverse, so more specific handling is needed," he concluded.

Furthermore, Mr. Edi mentioned several factors that influenced poverty in Malang City in the period March 2020-March 2021, including restrictions on community activities that affected economic activities, decreased production causing a reduction in employee working hours, and a reduction in the workforce.

The Malang City Government also took strategic steps by providing a poverty alleviation budget. Based on the Regional Poverty Alleviation Implementation Report (LP2KD) in 2021, IDR 599,10 billion was allocated. The poverty alleviation budget is detailed into a social security and basic needs fulfillment budget of IDR 271,79 billion; a community empowerment budget of IDR 294,80 billion; and a micro-business empowerment budget of IDR 32,51 billion.

Bung Edi also mentioned that it is very important to build collaboration in poverty alleviation. Such as support from related regional apparatuses, for example from the Population and Civil Registration Service for matching population administration data. In addition, digital infrastructure support is also needed, especially server capacity and stability including the Social Welfare Data Collection application from the Communication and Informatics Service. Including support for mentoring the Social Welfare Center of the Social Service P3AP2KB to provide community understanding during data collection in the field.

Head of Bappeda Malang City, Dwi Rahayu said that the coordination meeting for poverty alleviation in Malang City held in the Meeting Room of Malang City Hall was indeed intended to synchronize poverty alleviation strategies between regional agencies in accelerating and evaluating the implementation of poverty alleviation programs.
