Deputy Mayor of Malang, Ir. H. Sofyan Edi Jarwoko led the distribution of tilapia seeds for the utilization of irrigation channels in RW 1, Kebonsari Village, Saturday (10/12/2022).

Deputy Mayor Edi said that the use of irrigation channels as a place for fish farming will bring various positive impacts. In addition to the channels being clean from garbage, this activity can improve the economy and health of local residents and beautify the environment.

"I am very happy to be able to be a part of the distribution of 10.000 tilapia seeds in the Kebonsari Village irrigation channel. Of course this has a positive impact. First, related to the cleanliness of the river, not throwing garbage carelessly, so that it is clean from garbage," said Deputy Mayor Edi.

Through activities initiated by RW 1, Karang Taruna Kelurahan Kebonsari and Lurah Kebonsari who also synergize with the community, the participation of residents with RT and RW will also be better. Furthermore, no less important, the existence of this fish farming is expected to increase the awareness of residents regarding open defecation free (ODF) or Stop Open Defecation.

"If the environment where the river is clean, there is no garbage, the surrounding environment is organized, then the health level will be better. Then we talk about the economy, so if there is a harvest and so on including for water tourism activities, fishing and so on," he continued.

According to him, awareness of the entire community is needed to be able to maintain all this. Consistency is the key to success in achieving shared goals and expectations. In the future, it is hoped that this program can be applied to areas that share one river flow.

"Because this flow is in a series with the river above it, namely the one that enters Bandungrejosari, then Sukun Village and Tanjungrejo Village. To be able to program one flow from top to bottom, all of them are given seeds so that together they have awareness. This activity is positive so it is responded well by the community," he concluded.
