Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – The Draft Regional Regulation (Ranperda) of Malang City concerning Library Implementation received appreciation from various parties during the plenary meeting of the Malang City DPRD, Tuesday (13/12/2022). The presence of regulations on libraries is a bright spot that the government (executive) and the DPRD (legislative) have the same view to advance and improve the literacy of Malang City residents.
The Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji conveyed at the plenary meeting of the Malang City DPRD that he expressed his gratitude to the special committee (pansus) who had worked hard for this draft regulation. He said that the Malang City Government would immediately implement it.
"We hope that this regulation can be completed this year. So that the Malang City Government can immediately implement it," he said on the agenda of Delivering General Views of Factions on the Draft Regulation.
According to him, the organization of the library is directed towards increasing the love of reading towards a learning society. Malang City Government is trying to increase public literacy. Because public literacy in Indonesia is still low. So it is important to strengthen literacy in the community.
"Literacy is not just about reading, but how to filter before sharing. Indonesia's literacy rate is still at 62 out of 70 countries," he continued.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Malang City DPRD, I Made Riandiana Kartika said that the draft regional regulation that is being prepared has long been awaited. However, there are several obstacles experienced, such as not having regulations on financing.
"We really appreciate and support this draft regulation. Hopefully it can be implemented down to the sub-district level," he concluded. (cah/ram)
