Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – The level of tax awareness of residents and business actors in Malang City is relatively high. So that the Malang City Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda) on Tuesday (13/12/2022) night gave special appreciation and awards to them. Labeled 'Tax Awareness Festival Phase II and Taxpayer Gathering,' this event is intended for taxpayers who are orderly in paying Land and Building Tax (PBB), Other Regional Taxes (PDL), hotel and restaurant consumers who use the electronic payment system or e-tax.

This event also received appreciation from the Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji. According to him, the awareness of residents and business actors in paying taxes has continued to increase significantly, so that events like this are very effective. "Paying taxes is not only an obligation but also a need, and making taxpayers one of the acts of worship has begun to be done, which ultimately raises awareness," he said.
By paying taxes, the bespectacled man added, it has given rights to those who should receive, clean up assets and lighten the burden of others who need a helping hand. Such as for people with disabilities and underprivileged families. "With this achievement, the tax target this year of Rp566 billion will increase in 2023 to Rp1,6 trillion. This increase in the tax target is not without calculation but is based on a study," explained Sutiaji.
In 2024-2025, the number one person in the Malang City Government predicted that Malang City could record Regional Original Income (PAD) between IDR 3-IDR 4 trillion, so that fiscal independence would be realized. "From this condition, Malang City will be independent or no longer dependent on central funds to realize regional prosperity and community welfare," said Sutiaji.
Meanwhile, the Head of Bapenda Malang City, Dr. Handi Priyanto, S.AP., M.Si said that until now 700 e-taxes have been installed and spread across various business actors. Of the 700 business actors, 70 business places were selected with the highest tax payments so that they were entitled to participate in the draw held at the Malang Creative Center (MCC) building. Various attractive prizes were given to them, such as motorbikes, refrigerators, mountain bikes and vouchers to stay at starred hotels.
Meanwhile, for this year's tax revenue target, Handi said, from 9 types of regional taxes amounting to IDR 566 billion, IDR 500 billion has been realized. In the remaining two weeks, he is optimistic that he can realize it 100 percent or more. "With this activity, yesterday we have not mapped out how much the increase in regional taxes will be. But last year the total increase in regional taxes for tax awareness activities 1 and 2 in 2021 was IDR 46 billion. So we throw away IDR 1 billion in prizes, the feedback is IDR 46 billion. For the current one, we haven't calculated it yet, but hopefully it will be above last year," he hoped.
From the increase in the target in 2023, Handi is optimistic that it can be met. In addition to the awareness of residents to pay high taxes, the tax potential in Malang City is very large, especially for the Land and Building Acquisition Fee (BPHTB) sector, hotel and restaurant taxes, parking fees. "In addition, the Bapenda will continue to increase the installation of e-tax so that it can reduce revenue leakage," he concluded. (say/ram)
