Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – The fulfillment of clean water needs for the people of Malang City will soon be strengthened by the construction of a Surface Water Treatment Plant (WTP). The process began with the signing of a joint agreement between the Malang City Government and Perum Jasa Tirta I in Malang, Saturday (31/12/2022).
Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji at the signing of a joint agreement between the Malang City Government and Perum Jasa Tirta I in Malang, Saturday (31/12/2022).
The Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji, stated that the agreement that was made was a realization towards the independence of raw water availability that had long been aspired to.
"Initially 200 liters per second, later we will continue to increase it. Our hope in the future is that there will be more assurance that our people will not lack water. God willing, acceleration, hopefully August 2023 operational," said Sutiaji.
He added that after the joint agreement, the acceleration of technical matters would be carried out next week through a Business to Business scheme between Perumda Tugu Tirta and Perum Jasa Tirta I.
Furthermore, the Malang City Government has prepared land of approximately 18.000 square meters in the Bango River area which will be used to build the WTP.
Technically, Jasa Tirta I President Director, Dr. Ir. Raymond Valiant Ruritan, ST., MT ensured that the water quality of Bango River is good enough to be purified through the WTP facility that will be built.
"The Bango River and the Metro River are clearer (than Brantas). The purification operation is also cheaper and of better quality. We use a filtration system and the water, even though it comes from the river, is definitely of drinking water quality according to the Minister of Health's standards," explained Raymond.
Similar system management has been developed in Lamongan and the operation has been successful. So Raymond is optimistic that if the potential of surface water in Malang City can be optimized up to 1.500 or even 2.000 liters per second, then the needs of the community and the security of water availability for Malang City in the future can be guaranteed.
