Malang City Regional Secretary, Erik Setyo Santoso, distributed aid from Baznas to residents

These are some of the things conveyed by the Chairman of Baznas Malang City, Sulaiman at the 22nd anniversary commemoration of Baznas which was combined with the recitation of the Quran and joint prayers at the Baiturrahim Mosque, Malang City Hall, Thursday (19/1/2023).

The assistance worth IDR 142,5 million given to those entitled to it is in the form of assistance for house surgery, oxygen, prosthetic legs and renovations for 17 mosques.

Sulaiman added, although the funds collected in 2022 were smaller compared to 2021, by the end of 2022 his party was able to distribute a total of around Rp2,5 billion in aid. "Why is it so big? Because the source of funds is partly from the 2021 balance and is distributed to several areas, such as education, health and strengthening the community economy," he said.

"The spirit of Baznas is the integration of all elements of society and we as the coordinator of all zakat, of course we are the ones who calculate and assess how much zakat there is, so that's what we do," added Sulaiman.

The various programs and steps were appreciated by the Regional Secretary of Malang City Erik Setyo Santoso, ST, MT who was present representing the Mayor of Malang Drs. H. Sutiaji.

"Baznas can be an effective partner for the Malang City Government in handling various community and development problems. Sometimes the budgeting mechanism owned by the local government due to provisions cannot be present quickly. Well here Baznas can be a very effective partner," he explained.

What is the Baznas program is certainly in line with what is being planned by the Malang City Government. "Of course we will make maximum efforts to encourage ASN, especially when paying their zakat through the Malang City Baznas.

"Next, we encourage to maximize the formation of Zakat Collection Units (UPZ) which currently exist in eight sub-districts out of 57 sub-districts," Erik concluded. (say/yon)
