Breadfruit (malangkota.go.id)- A series of strategies carried out collaboratively by the Malang City Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) have begun to produce controlled inflation at the beginning of the year. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the month-to-month (mtm) inflation rate in January 2023 was recorded at 0,15 percent. Meanwhile, year-to-year (yty) inflation was 6,06 percent.
Comparatively, the month-to-month inflation rate of Malang City is the lowest in East Java and also below the national figure. This was stated by the Head of BPS Malang City, Erny Fatma Setyoharini in the official statistical news release agenda, Wednesday (1/2/23).
Erny on this occasion also mentioned several important notes that occurred throughout January 2023. Among them are the policy of increasing cigarette excise rates on January 1 and the increase in the benchmark interest rate on January 19. In addition, there is a policy of reducing gasoline and diesel prices on January 3.
"Hopefully, this decrease in fuel prices will certainly affect the prices of other commodities, especially those that have a direct impact on fuel," said Erny.
The woman in the hijab further said that the transportation sector experienced deflation of 2,11 percent with an inflation contribution of -0.3036 percent. This was influenced by several government policies related to fuel prices.
Although the transportation group experienced deflation month-to-month, year-on-year, the transportation group still ranked first with inflation of 16,98 percent with a contribution of 2,17 percent.
"Meanwhile, the group experiencing the highest inflation was the food, beverage, and tobacco group with an inflation rate of 1,15 percent with an inflation contribution of 0,2599 percent. In the next order is the housing, water, electricity, and household fuel group of 0,96 percent with an inflation contribution of 0,1718. And followed by the personal care and other services group which experienced inflation of 0,3 percent. With an inflation contribution of 0,0187 percent," he explained.
Some products that have the highest share of inflation are house contracts. The bespectacled woman said that the increase in house contract prices usually occurs at the beginning of the year. While deflation is mainly influenced by air transportation.
Based on BPS data regarding inflation developments in Malang City from 2010 to 2022, it was recorded that the second largest city in East Java experienced the highest inflation in 2013 and 2022 which was influenced by fuel price adjustments.
"We must be optimistic but remain vigilant amidst uncertainty. It is extraordinary that the Malang City TPID has really worked hard to control inflation and produced the lowest month-to-month inflation of the seven other cities in East Java. So there is a harmonious synergy between TPID and BPS. From the data we release, it has always been responded positively by TPID, which has an impact on the inflation figures we convey," he concluded.
Separately, Malang Mayor Drs. H. Sutiaji welcomed and expressed the readiness of all his staff to continue to monitor inflation according to President Jokowi's direction by observing the current global economic dynamics.
"On various occasions I always emphasize, not only to the ranks of TPID, but we also invite the community to play a role. This low inflation rate is certainly a provision of optimism amidst the vigilance that we must continue to maintain," said Sutiaji. (ari/yon)
