Breadfruit (malangkota.go.id) – Some time ago, a fire occurred on Jl Pahlawan TRIP which burned down four shophouse buildings. The fire was only extinguished for about three hours by deploying a number of firefighters and officers. From this incident and other fire incidents, especially those affecting residential areas, residents are urged to be aware that fire disasters can occur at any time.
That was emphasized by the Head of the Fire Department of Malang City Satpol PP, Muhammad Teguh Budi Wibowo when met, Monday (13/02/2023). To prevent or suppress the occurrence of fire triggers, he said that every business place must have a Light Fire Extinguisher (APAR) and always be alert, especially fire triggers that can be triggered by electrical short circuits.
In addition to APAR, Teguh said, it would be better to also have sand and materials to extinguish light fires, such as burlap sacks. "For residential areas, sand and burlap sacks are enough because APAR may still be expensive. The most important thing is vigilance," he continued.
In addition, business owners and the public in general must also comply with the electricity installation rules recommended by PLN. For example, using or installing electricity according to needs, using standard cables, correct cable installation and always checking the installation.
"These are some of the things that we have conveyed and socialized so far to business owners and the community, so that the triggers of fires can be reduced to a minimum. In Malang City, in one month there are at least three to five fires that are generally triggered by electrical short circuits," explained Teguh.
He further said that when a fire occurs, his party always coordinates with other officers from Malang Regency, Batu City and volunteers, so that officers can immediately extinguish the fire in a short time.
"One of the homeworks for the future is to increase the number of hydrants in public places and densely populated areas so that when a fire occurs it can be handled immediately. We will coordinate with Perumda Tugu Tirta in this regard," concluded Teguh. (say/yon)
