Dispangtan Urges Farmers to Remain Alert to FMD

Starfruit (malangkota.go.id) – Until now in Malang City there are 1.700 cows consisting of beef cattle and dairy cattle. Of that number, all cows are declared healthy and free from Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD). However, officers from the Malang City Food Security and Agriculture Service (Dispangtan) continue to conduct intensive checks.

Head of Animal Husbandry and Health, Malang City Agriculture and Food Security Agency, Dr. Anton Pramujiono.

This was conveyed by the Head of the Animal Husbandry and Health Division of the Malang City Agriculture and Food Security Agency, Dr. Anton Pramujiono, Friday (17/2/2023). He said that currently Malang City has received a quota of 1500 doses of the third dose of vaccine for the cows.

When asked about FMD cases in cattle in 2022, Anton said there were 444 cases and 176 of them recovered. The rest were slaughtered at slaughterhouses or Perumda Tunas, but when the cattle were indicated to be infected with FMD. "What is certain is that when they were slaughtered, the cattle were not infected with the FMD virus," he said.

Although currently the FMD virus is almost non-existent, Anton still appeals to farmers to remain vigilant, always maintain the cleanliness of the pen, animals and maintain good livestock diets. "If there are sick cows, they should immediately contact our officers," he requested.

"Likewise for cows that have been vaccinated in the second stage, later officers will immediately inject the third dose of vaccine. If the number of vaccines is lacking, we will later submit another, so that cows in Malang City have good immunity," said Anton.

If in other areas currently FMD still exists, according to Anton it is likely that the cows have not been vaccinated. "If the cows have been vaccinated, especially the third dose, then when attacked by the virus they still have strong resistance," concluded Anton. (say/yon)
