Malang, Malangkota.go.id – The economy of Malang City in 2022 grew impressively, reaching 6,32 percent. This figure even exceeds pre-pandemic growth and is the highest record in the last decade.
It is also a matter of pride when the realization of economic growth has exceeded the 2023 development target of 5,80 percent in a year faster.
The Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji said that this economic growth is the fruit of collaboration in economic recovery. Starting from the construction of the Malang Creative Center and facilitation of various ecosystem programs for 17 sub-sectors of the creative economy, strengthening the role of MSMEs, revitalizing traditional markets, developing tourism destinations, creating a business ecosystem that attracts investment, to bureaucratic reform that is increasingly impactful.
“This is a blessing from God. His blessing on the prayers, patience, determination, hard work and intelligence of our roles, all of you. Through this collaboration we continue to build independence and resilience. So that what has been achieved can be sustainable. 'From Malang for Indonesia and the World',” he explained.
Comparatively, the economic growth of Malang City in 2022 is also higher than the economic growth of East Java which is at 5,34 percent and the national economic growth which reaches 5,31 percent.
Meanwhile, Head of the Central Statistics Agency, Erny Fatma Setyoharini in the Statistics Release News, Wednesday (1/3/2023). Erny said, although globally the economy is still experiencing a slowdown, the economy of Indonesia, East Java, and especially Malang City grew "impressively" in 2023.
BPS noted that Malang City's economic growth returned to a level above 5 percent as in the years before the pandemic.
In 2018 and 2019, namely before the pandemic, Malang City's economic growth reached 5,72 and 5,73. Due to the pandemic in 2020, the economic growth rate contracted and weakened to -2,26. However, Malang City's economy strengthened significantly to 4,21 in 2021. Now it has even reached 6,32.
Erny mentioned the nominal figure of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) by business sector. "The economic value formed during 2022 is 84.8 trillion rupiah (for current prices). If calculated at constant prices with reference to 2010, the economic value formed is 56,68 trillion rupiah," said Erny.
Furthermore, Erny stated that the trade sector is the highest source of economic growth, which is 2,1 percent. Followed by the construction industry sector, and education which also dominate and become the leading economic sector of Malang City. Meanwhile, the transportation and warehousing sector, other services, and accommodation and food and beverages are business fields with the highest growth because they are driven by community mobility and increasing tourist visits.
"The controlled Covid-19 pandemic and increased economic activity of the community have driven economic improvement. Even the economic growth of Malang City in 2022 reached its highest point in the last ten years," he concluded.
