Ensuring Discipline, Malang City Transportation Agency Holds Night Operation

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – Different from the usual which is held during the day, the Malang City Transportation Agency (Dishub) held a joint operation to control parking and street vendors (PKL) at night. In addition to reducing the triggers of congestion, this is also to ensure the discipline of parking attendants (jukir) and street vendors. This event is also to support the implementation of traffic engineering management and road transportation in the Klojen area.

Head of the Malang City Transportation Agency, Drs. R. Widjaja Saleh Putra on the sidelines of the joint operation, Tuesday night (7/3/2023) said that one of the triggers for congestion is related to parking and street vendors on the shoulder of the road. In addition, there are also odong-odongs operating on protocol roads. From this operation, a number of parking attendants received stern warnings for parking vehicles not according to the rules. There was even a parking attendant's card confiscated for violating the parking area.

Several two-wheeled vehicles that were parked inappropriately and after waiting for 20 minutes the owners did not come were immediately prosecuted by officers. Likewise for four-wheeled vehicles that were immediately padlocked or locked on one of their tires. The owners of these vehicles were then summoned to the Malang City Transportation Agency office to make a statement that they would not do the same thing in the future. Officers also chased away several street vendors around the Merdeka Square because they were selling on the sidewalk and the shoulder of the road.

This joint operation was carried out at night, said the man who is often called Jaya because usually the opportunity is used by the community at night and to find negligence from officers. "This step is to prove whether street vendors and parking attendants are really orderly when it is estimated that there are no officers operating," he explained.

Widjaja also hopes that parking attendants and residents can park or place their vehicles in their places. "Our goal is to change socio-cultural, namely changing the way of driving well so that other road users are also comfortable. When on the road, drivers must also be polite, place their vehicles in their place and obey traffic signs. Basically, social development and non-physical humanitarian development are the most difficult," he said.

In this operation, the Transportation Agency only gave light sanctions in the form of warnings and more on education for violators of the rules. However, if violators make similar mistakes, they will be subject to minor criminal sanctions (tipiring) or handed over to the Police to be ticketed. "This is done to provide a deterrent effect for drivers, to reduce traffic accidents and provide a sense of security for road users," concluded Widjaja. (say/yon)
