Starfruit (malangkota.go.id) – On the occasion of the commemoration of National Music Day, the Indonesian Music Museum (MMI) experienced a regeneration of its management by carrying out a handover of office at the Malang Creative Center (MCC) in Malang City, Saturday (11/3/2023).

The Chairman of the Indonesian Music Museum (MMI) for the 2016-2023 period, Hengki Herwanto, said that MMI has entered its 14th year. Now MMI has approximately 45.000 collections, some of which have been designated as cultural heritage objects by the Malang City Government (Pemkot).
"MMI was founded with our love for music in 2009. It was initially established in a home garage, and in 2023 a regeneration was held. We hope that in the future with the new management, MMI can develop, not only creative in music but also creative in the economy," said Hengki.
He explained several strategic activities that MMI has carried out in the last few years, including supporting Ambon as a World Music City, obtaining a category B museum standardization certificate from the Ministry of Education and Culture, and obtaining UNESCO support to document Indonesian music which includes 100 albums of regional songs from Sumatra to Papua.
"MMI also publishes various books and catalogs with music themes. And the latest is also contributing to the Keroncong Music Encyclopedia published by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture," he added.
Hengki Herwanto handed over the helm of MMI management to Ratna Sakti Wulandari (Nana). With the new management formation, various aspects will be strengthened, including collaboration and synergy by involving the government, academics, media and others to revive the passion and spirit of Malang City which is known as one of the barometers of Indonesian music.
The latest program that has been ready to be launched by the new formation of MMI management is a regional song competition with the title Nusantara Bernyanyi. Nusantara Bernyanyi is a singing competition for solo, group and choir categories for elementary and junior high school students in Malang City which will collaborate with the Malang City Education and Culture Office.
Head of the Cultural Division of the Malang City Education and Culture Office, Dr. Dian Kuntari, S. STP., M.Si, who was also present at the handover of the MMI management, congratulated and expressed his appreciation for the new MMI management.
