Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – Malang City was appointed as the host of the 2023 World Water Day Commemoration Peak by the Indonesian Ministry of Health. The activity was held on Jalan Ijen, Malang City in conjunction with Car Free Day Event, Sunday (19/3/2023) was enlivened by the action of drinking water together directly from the fountain tap installed in public spaces as well as the kick off of the implementation of household drinking water quality surveillance in 334 districts/cities.

The Malang City Government is also committed to continuing to provide excellent service to the community, especially in fulfilling drinking water needs through the Regional Public Company (Perumda) Tugu Tirta by expanding the scope of the Prime Drinking Water Zone (ZAMP) which currently has 160 water taps spread across public spaces.
The Director General (Dirjen) of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, appreciated the steps taken by the Malang City Government by presenting this fountain tap. According to him, this step could be a way to advocate other regions to carry out similar movements.
"How do we provide advocacy to other regions so that they also move, that there are those who can (build ZAMP). This is the right step so that it can be an example for other regions," he said.
Maxi added that the construction of ZAMP makes Malang City no less than cities in Europe that are able to provide free water access for its people in public spaces. "We are no less than cities in Europe. If you need water, it's easy, so access to the community is better," he added.
Responding to this, the Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji, said that his party continues to strive to ensure that the quality of service in terms of fulfilling drinking water for the community can be maintained so that it can continue to be an example for other regions in Indonesia. In addition, it is also hoped that Malang City will be able to continue to maintain the availability of raw water for the community that continues to grow.
"Malang City is an urban city. Currently, water needs may have been met, but in the future, housing growth will be increasingly related to availability. We are also committed to strengthening our water quality," he said.
Furthermore, the bespectacled man said that the task of building and maintaining the water quality of Malang City is a responsibility that must be carried out together.
"Building facilities and maintaining water quality is not only the task of the Health Department, but also the Environmental Department, DPUPRPKP, and other departments. I think this is a shared task, not the responsibility of just one or two departments, including the media to provide literacy to the public," he concluded. (iu/yon)
