Breadfruit (malangkota.go.id) – Malang City in March 2023 experienced monthly inflation month to month (m-to-m) of 0,42 percent with inflation year on year (y-on-y) of 5,74 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 113,42. This was conveyed by the Head of the Malang City Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Erny Fatma Setyoharini through the Official Statistics News Release held virtually, Monday (3/4/2023).
"As for inflation year to date (y-to-d) inflation from January to March 2023 was 0,66 percent. Compared to the previous two months, inflation in March was higher due to the momentum of the month of Ramadan at the end of March 2023," explained Erny.
He explained that the commodities that contributed the most to March inflation were rice, air transportation, cayenne pepper, broiler chicken, gasoline, filtered kretek cigarettes, house contracts, garlic, broiler chicken eggs, and also cars.
"There are several notes of events other than the month of Ramadan that fall in the last week of March, including the increase in cigarette excise rates by 10 percent as of January 1, 2023, which has a gradual impact on cigarette prices. Then, there was an adjustment in fuel prices on March 1, 2023 for Pertamax increasing by IDR 500/liter and Pertamax Turbo increasing by IDR 250/liter, but it did not have a significant impact," he explained.
Erny continued, in addition there is an adjustment to the Government Purchase Price (HPP) of unhusked rice or rice and the Highest Retail Price (HET) of rice which was announced on March 15, 2023. Furthermore, for the main harvest period in March 2023, the national main harvest in 10 provinces and 66 main districts. The existence of weather anomalies in some areas of the country where there are extreme weather changes has the potential to disrupt the production of horticultural commodities.
"On the 11th day of Ramadan, several commodities have started to climb. This is due to increased demand during the month of Ramadan. Ahead of Eid al-Fitr, many people have crowded shops so that there is an increase in demand. Airline ticket prices have also started to climb, so we must be aware of inflation ahead of Eid al-Fitr," said Erny.
According to him, controlled price increases will also help maintain purchasing power ahead of Eid al-Fitr. Several commodities that predominantly contribute to inflation ahead of Eid al-Fitr and need to be watched out for are air transportation, broiler chicken meat, broiler chicken eggs, red chilies, live chickens and several other commodities.
"For tourism developments presented in the Room Occupancy Rate (TPK) in February, there was a decline when compared to the previous month. In February, the TPK of starred hotels was 54,37 percent, which means that out of 100 starred hotel rooms, around 54 to 55 rooms were occupied. Meanwhile, the Average Length of Stay (RLTM) in February was 1,46 nights or lower than the RLTM of East Java (1,49) and the nation (1,63)," explained Erny regarding the development of tourism in Malang City in February 2023.
With the policy related to joint leave for Eid al-Fitr, it is hoped that it can increase tourism in Malang City again. In addition to releasing two strategic data on inflation developments in March 2023 and Malang City tourism in February 2023, BPS Malang City alsolaunching MBOIStats+ application.
"There are many additional features in the MBOIStats+ application this time, starting from Be-iZI which contains various innovations. In addition, there is also a report menu that makes it easier for the public to report anything related to the BPS Malang City service.
