Starfruit (malangkota.go.id) – Among the dozens of paintings displayed in the Painting Exhibition entitled 'Sewelas Dino Ngenteni Blanggur', apparently the Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji fell in love with a painting depicting the Malang Creative Center (MCC) Building. The painting is the work of a painter named Deddy Satya D.

The Mayor of Malang also bought the painting and planned to display it at Malang City Hall. "I immediately took the painting because MCC is our treasure, it doesn't exist in other areas. (MCC) This is one of the icons of Malang City," he said proudly after attending the opening of the Painting Exhibition at MCC, 4th Floor, Monday (3/4/2023).
Deddy Satya D., the painter, also revealed that the idea to paint the MCC building came to him when he found out that the painting exhibition held to commemorate the 109th anniversary of Malang City was being held at MCC. It took him about 14 days to paint this proud building of Malang City.
The work painted with oil paint is titled 'New Dawn of Malang City'. In the description of the painting priced at Rp15.000.000,00, Deddy wrote that the MCC Building is one of the great achievements of the Mayor of Malang which has become a new icon of the creative world of Malang City.
According to him, painting the MCC building was not an easy matter. "This is an iconic, magnificent building, and I am not an architect, I am a painter. So making the sketch was extraordinary, while coloring it was easy," he said.
According to him as a painter, what often becomes problematic is finding excitement or momentum. "What momentum in an event, we as artists express it in a picture or painting," continued this friendly man.
Being a painter, he said, also requires discipline. Deddy applies this principle in his life. It has become a habit for him that every day he must hold a brush to paint. "Every day he must paint for at least 30 minutes. If he is not disciplined or depends on his mood, it won't happen," said the artist who lives in Titan Asri, Pandanwangi.
In this exhibition, Deddy also exhibited two of his other paintings. His other two works are themed landscape scenery. In addition, in this exhibition, he also included the work of his son who is a disabled person with down syndrome with extraordinary painting talent and has been trained since childhood.
Regarding his work that was purchased by the Mayor of Malang, Deddy expressed his gratitude. “Alhamdulillah, this is a blessing. The struggle every time I come home from tarawih, every night until one o’clock and it turns out to bring results. I am very grateful. It seems like this painting of the MCC building does not exist yet. If you start, you have to be sure. This does not exist yet, so I have to start,” said the 53-year-old man.
Deddy also appreciated the establishment of MCC as a new place for artists to exhibit their works so that they can be appreciated by the wider community. "After this pandemic, I saw a lot of painting activities in Malang City. Very good. Moreover, we are given a gallery (MCC) like this, it's extraordinary. Also the Mayor's speech earlier about painting, masyaallah," he concluded. (ari/yon)
