Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – Proud news continues to flow from Malang City, which is increasingly being considered as a new creative economic power in the national arena. Most recently, the work of a Malang City graphic designer has successfully penetrated the top five nominations for the logo of the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) from around 500 works throughout Indonesia.
It is Dimas Fakhrudin, the founder of Yumakiso Studio and an academic at Brawijaya University (UB) Malang, who is the figure behind the logo that carries the philosophy of the spirit of Nusantara as a world city with integrity and competitiveness.
“Alhamdulillah, I'm very proud ndredeg (trembling) too, and actually didn't expect to make it to the top ten, then continue to the top five now. It's certainly a matter of pride to be able to take part in designing the identity of the Indonesian Capital City," explained Dimas when contacted via messaging media, Thursday (6/4/2023).
The young man who is now also trusted as the Chair of the Indonesian Graphic Designers Association (ADGI) Malang Chapter revealed that his and his team's design took the tridaya concept as an illustration of the growth phase of the IKN.
The center of the logo is a star symbol that represents Pancasila as the foundation of the IKN which is expected to be a shared space for all Indonesian citizens. "I chose a circular shape as a representation of the collective movement of Indonesian society. This logo is expected to represent harmony in the progress of Indonesian civilization," he added.
Dimas admitted that the creative process was not easy and very challenging. It took almost two months to be considered truly mature and to produce a visual identity/logo that would remain relevant for the next 20 years.
"I hope that this public voting process is one of the real proofs that the public can participate in government policies. From the graphic designer's perspective, this is certainly a positive thing, how we can make a real contribution to the country. Furthermore, this is not a matter of being elected or not or winning or losing, the most important thing is wanting, being able, and daring to take opportunities, continuing to learn, and giving our best," explained Dimas who also took part in overseeing the design process for the 109th Anniversary of Malang City.
Separately, the Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji, admitted that he was very proud to hear the good news. For him, this adds to the enthusiasm of the Malang City Government to continue to strengthen the competitiveness of the creative economy of Malang City through the activation of the Malang Creative Center (MCC) and various other program facilities.
“Excellent. I pray for the best. Of course this is an honor, that the President chose one of his nominees, Mas Dimas from Malang City. This is also a testimony of super creativity from Malang for Indonesia and the world. Let's support and voting together,” he said enthusiastically.

It is also stated that members of the public who take part in voting have the opportunity to win door prize ten electric motorbikes signed by President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo.
