Advancing to National Adiwiyata Level, SDN Ketawanggede Has This Innovation

Lowokwaru (malangkota.go.id) – As one of the schools that will compete at the national level in the Adiwiyata award, SDN Ketawanggede Malang City has many innovations. One of the leading ones is catfish cultivation in limited land using drums.

Badik Ulum, one of the staff at SDN Ketawanggede, confirmed that they are currently still waiting for the assessment of the National Adiwiyata program. In addition to the innovation of solar power plants, this school also has an innovation in catfish cultivation in limited land using drum media.

"Not only can we harvest and consume healthy catfish because they are high in protein, catfish cultivation at our school also really helps to green the school," explained Badik, Monday (9/4/2023).

With good management, catfish pond wastewater is also transformed into liquid organic fertilizer that is good for plants. Using simple technology, catfish pond wastewater as a natural fertilizer makes plants and vegetables in schools more fertile, greener, fresher, more durable and healthier because it is organic.

According to Badik, catfish cultivation is also very helpful for urban farming activities in schools, and is a means of self-introduction and learning for students to care more about and love the environment so that it can later become a lifestyle.

"This is a good value instillation for children to become a superior generation starting from themselves by learning directly at school," he explained.

Badik said, one drum of catfish pond can be filled with 500 seeds which are cultivated until they are ready for consumption. The time needed from the beginning until ready for harvest is said to be around three to four months.

In addition to being used for catfish cultivation, Badik said that used drum media can also be used to cultivate various other types of fish, including tilapia and gourami. (cah/yon)
