This is the Response of the Mayor of Malang Regarding Rogue Business Actors

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – Some time ago, the Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda) of Malang City conducted an inspection at five cafes and restaurants that were suspected of manipulating e-Tax, namely by having two transaction accounts. The results showed that from the five locations, it was proven that the business owners had committed tax evasion worth more than two billion rupiah.

Responding to the incident, Malang Mayor Drs. H. Sutiaji said that what the business owner did could not be tolerated because it could end up in a criminal case. "That's the people's money, namely consumers as taxpayers who are entrusted to the business owner and must be handed over to the regional treasury," explained the bespectacled man after attending the distribution of basic food assistance to residents in the hall of the Ciptomulyo Village Office, Wednesday (12/4/2023).

He added that the ten percent tax was not the business owner's money, because they had already made a profit from the selling price. The number one person in the Malang City Government also appealed to business owners, especially cafes and restaurants, not to play around, and those who were proven to have done so yesterday would be processed according to applicable regulations. If they do not pay a fine four times the unpaid tax, they are threatened with a two-year prison sentence.

Mayor Sutiaji also said that his party had coordinated with Law Enforcement Officers (APH), such as the Police and the Prosecutor's Office to process and provide a deterrent effect to these tax evaders. Communication has also been carried out with the Coordination and Supervision, Prevention (Korsupgah) of the KPK.

He emphasized that his party will not play around in handling this problem, because taxes are people's money and are a mandate. Moreover, the world of taxation is currently in the spotlight. "In addition to business actors, tax officers from Bapenda should not try to play games with business actors because later all those who are proven guilty will be dealt with firmly," he said.

Sutiaji also asked the Malang City Bapenda to continue to intensify this sweep and take action against business actors who are suspected of embezzling taxes. From this incident, his party also instructed Bapenda personnel to go directly to the location as consumers. Later, it can be checked on proof of payment of tax collection or not and monitor at certain hours that are estimated to be busy with consumers.

"This step is one of the effective ways to prove whether the business actors are honest. Because from the results of yesterday's operation, some said that there were few visitors, even though it was during busy hours. Such as between 16.00-19.00 WIB which is the time to break the fast. If the officers already have evidence, then the business owners can no longer deny it," concluded Sutiaji. (say/yon)
