Starfruit (malangkota.go.id) – The potential of the creative animation industry and Intellectual Property (IP) from Malang City is increasingly recognized internationally. Most recently, ORRO Studio was chosen as one of Indonesia's representatives in the prestigious event Hong Kong International Licensing Show (HKILS) 2023 held at the Hong Kong International Convention Center, 19-21 April 2023.

Ahmad Hafidz Azroi, founder ORRO Studio said that his studio brought Alto's work and Clu, a Creative IP (Intellectual Property) in the event market hub Asia's largest for the licensing, animation, art and design industries.
“Alto and "Clu tells the story of the adventures of two friends, Alto and Clu, who are tasked with spreading rainwater to all corners of the earth to preserve life," explained Hafidz, Wednesday (26/4/2023).
The process of bringing Alto and Clu as one of Indonesia's representatives went through a fairly long selection process from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenaprekraf) of the Republic of Indonesia.
It was all worth it because in Hong Kong, ORRO Studio was able to gain new insights and meet potential clients. Partner to develop Alto and Clu.
Another thing that was a special moment at HKLIS 2023 was when the Indonesian contingent was visited Ex-Creative Director Disney Asia, Allen Au Yeung who gave insight the depth of the creative industry IP as an original work that can be claimed by copyright which can later be valued through licensing and royalties.
More broadly, Hafidz and his friends at ORRO Studio have an important mission to make the young generation of Indonesia more interested in getting involved in the creative industry.
"For us, (participation) is very valuable and in line with the mission of expanding innovation in the animation industry by inviting young people, so that animation is not only seen as cartoons and children," added Hafidz.
Participation in the HKILS event with a number of other well-known Indonesian IPs such as Tahilalats and Si Juki adds to the positive record of the animation studio founded by Hafidz together with Sukaiman Putrantoro, Lilo Falih, Rico Sandyta, Izza Yunta on February 2, 2020.
Previously, ORRO Studio has been recorded as having experience working on industrial-scale projects for international clients from China, Mexico, Europe, and the United States. In addition, it is also affiliated with Animation Factory Singhasari Special Economic Zone (KEK) to increase synergy of the national animation industry including collaboration in giving birth to Alto and Clu.
ORRO's positive track record also adds to the list of important testimonies regarding the competitiveness of human resources in the creative industry in Malang City. This was expressed by the Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji, who during his leadership consistently took strategic policies to support the creative economy.
"Malang has always been a warehouse for creative children. It's great to see the Malang animation studio. Go international. So what we do together with the community with MCC (Malang Creative Center) and other programs are all for this talent. We hope to be increasingly noticed and supported nationally. The ecosystem, financing facilities, networks and protection of IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) too," said Sutiaji.
In line with this, Hafidz voiced his hope that the Indonesian public would increasingly understand the importance of IP, which he considered very strategic for the progress of the creative industry.
"Indonesia should not rely solely on exporting natural resources. We hope that Indonesia will be more IP literate, because IP is the future of the creative industry that can become an asset of economic value, and must be balanced with adequate human resources to develop the IP industry," he concluded.
