Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – A number of personnel from the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) and the Malang City Transportation Agency (Dishub) carried out a clean-up of dozens of Street Vendors (PKL) in the Merdeka Square area of Malang City, Tuesday (2/5/2023). This clean-up action included driving them away and also giving stern warnings.

This was done because the street vendors had been given tolerance and previously there had been an agreement with officers about selling for seven days since Eid al-Fitr, or precisely since April 22, 2023. In fact, since Monday (1/5/2023) yesterday, street vendors had not been selling in the town square area.
Head of Public Order and Security (Kabid Trantibum) of Malang City Satpol PP, Rahmad Hidayat, when met on Tuesday (2/5/2023) said that this eviction and stern warning had to be carried out because the street vendors had violated the previous agreement.
Rahmad added, according to Malang City Regulation No. 2 of 2012 concerning Public Order and the Environment, the Alun-Alun Merdeka area is one of the PKL-free areas. "PKLs can or may sell in the area if they get permission from the Mayor of Malang," he explained.
After the deterrence, Rahmad emphasized that his party would continue with the action starting tomorrow, Wednesday, May 3, 2023. "The control and action will continue to be carried out and those who are caught will be subject to minor criminal sanctions (tipiring)," he explained.
"So far, we have not immediately taken action. Previously, officers have conducted socialization and warnings. If our warnings are not heeded, then we will take firm action," concluded Rahmad. (say/yon)
