WBP Transforms Plastic Waste Into Ashtray, Head of Trade and Industry Office: That's Amazing

Starfruit (malangkota.go.id) – Once again, the Class I Malang Penitentiary, East Java Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, has issued the latest innovation, namely a product, namely an ashtray processed from unused plastic waste.

Ashtrays made from plastic waste from Inmates of Class I Malang Prison

Inmates of Class I Malang Prison had the opportunity to participate in a program to make ashtrays from plastic waste accompanied by Arya Galung as Head of Work Activities Division (Kabid Giatja), Tuesday (9/5/2023).

This program, said Arya, aims to provide new skills for inmates, so that after they have completed their sentence, it can also be a provision for them.

Using plastic as the base material, these inmates can produce various products, such as ashtrays and paving. Simply put, plastic waste is burned at high temperatures and then molded into several forms of crafts.

"Through this program, inmates of Class I Malang Prison not only gain new skills in making ashtrays from plastic waste, but also improve their ability to work together and innovate," explained Arya.

Processing plastic waste into ashtrays, according to him, has economic value and is useful, especially in reducing the amount of plastic waste scattered in the surrounding environment. "By processing plastic waste into ashtrays, we can utilize waste that should only be a burden on the environment into useful items and have a selling value," explained Arya.

The same thing was conveyed by the Head of the Cooperatives, Industry and Trade Service (Diskopindag) of Malang City, Eko Sri Yuliadi. When confirmed via his cellphone, he said that the breakthrough made by the Class I Malang Prison was extraordinary and must continue to be maximized.

"We should not only see someone from one side. Like these inmates, who certainly also have abilities. If those abilities are accommodated and channeled, then they will produce works that are able to compete in the global market," said Eko. (say/yon)
