Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – The Public Library and Regional Archives Service (Dispussipda) of Malang City held an impressive celebration to welcome National Book Day and National Archives Day by ensuring that visitors were more comfortable and educated.
Young Archivist of the Malang City Library and Archives Office, Peni Wijananti, said that this activity was a series of events to welcome National Book Day which is celebrated every May 17th as well as the commemoration of National Archives Day which is celebrated every May 18th.
"Today's activities at the Malang City Library are the commemoration of Book Day, for National Archives Day we will hold it on May 19, 203 because the 18th is a national holiday, so the Malang City Library is also closed," explained Peni, Wednesday (17/5/2023).
In celebration of National Book Day and National Archives Day this time, visitors are invited to learn more about books and archives, with the hope that the public will increasingly understand and love the existence of the Malang City Library.
"Sometimes there are still many people who underestimate the existence of archives, even though the existence of archives is very important. That is what we continue to educate," said Peni.
National Archives Day is said to be a good opportunity for the public to remember how important archives are. Every year, various government agencies participate in commemorating National Archives Day in various ways.
On this historic day, it is also a momentum to increase cooperation with all parties to improve the quality of archiving comprehensively. In 2023, the commemoration of National Archives Day will be the 52nd.
With the development of current archiving technology, saving and preserving collective memory in archives has become an important thing to do.
"Through archives, we can describe the journey of the nation's history from time to time and make it a national identity," explained Peni.
The task of continuing to save archives, he emphasized, is a shared responsibility as well as a cultural heritage of the nation and can prevent the loss of information. Therefore, the Malang City Library welcomes this day with various activities aimed at educating the public.
To make library visitors more enthusiastic, Peni explained that the library management had prepared various interesting activities, such as inviting visitors to sing and providing various attractive prizes.
Through this commemoration, Dispussipda Malang City hopes that more people will realize the importance of reading, understand the value of archiving, and love libraries as centers of knowledge and information. (cah/yon)
