Breadfruit (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) held a landslide disaster management simulation at Tanjungrejo 5 Elementary School, Malang City, Friday (26/05/2023). The counseling to these schools is an effort to educate students regarding disaster preparedness.
Head of Prevention and Preparedness Division of Malang City BPBD, Dra. Khabibah, MM revealed that the training at SDN 5 Tanjungrejo was a non-structural disaster education facilitator program. Where previously Malang City BPBD received a request from Tanjungrejo Village to carry out activities related to disaster mitigation facilitators.
"From BPBD we formed 40 facilitators for disaster mitigation. After the training some time ago, today our team was divided into four to provide disaster preparedness education. One of them is at SDN Tanjungrejo 5," explained Khabibah.
Through this counseling, students are taught about disaster mitigation, especially earthquakes. The Malang City BPBD facilitator team provides students with information on how to deal with it. In Malang City itself, public awareness of disaster mitigation is currently quite good. This was proven when the community was responsive when facing the landslide in Tanjungrejo some time ago.
The Principal of SDN Tanjungrejo 5, Hendri Chosida S.Pd said that the Malang City BPBD team educated his students regarding disaster mitigation, one of which is when an earthquake occurs.
"I feel proud and happy with this activity. Because it educates our students, especially grades 3, 4, 5, 6, not to panic when a disaster occurs," explained Ida, the nickname of Hendri Chosida S.Pd.
Especially during an earthquake that usually happens suddenly, including when children are at school, Ida explained further. She revealed that 125 students of SDN Tanjungrejo 5 participated in this activity seriously but relaxedly until they felt happy.
"The materials provided by the Malang City BPBD team are also easy for children to digest so that they can better understand what to do when a disaster occurs," he explained.
Hendri supports and appreciates the program which is a proposal from Tanjungrejo Village. The same training, today Friday (26/05/2023) was also held at SDN 1 Tanjungrejo, SDN 2 Tanjungrejo, and SDN 3 Tanjungrejo. (cah/yul)
