Starfruit (malangkota.go.id) – After being inaugurated some time ago, the public and the election monitoring press (Mappilu) of the Malang Raya PWI registered with the Malang City Bawaslu on Friday (26/05/2023). This step received appreciation from the Head of the Public Relations and Media Bureau of the Indonesian Bawaslu, Ali Imron, during his working visit to the local Bawaslu.
As an extension of Bawaslu, Ali hopes that members of Mappilu PWI Malang Raya will contribute to realizing a quality and dignified 2024 election. "Mappilu from the journalist element in carrying out its duties should continue to refer to the journalistic code of ethics," he added.
Through his journalistic work, it is also hoped that he can provide literacy to the community so that community participation will also be high in the future. Ali emphasized that the duties as a journalist and election observer are an inseparable whole.
However, journalists must maintain their reputation and be on an impartial and fair path. According to Ali, this is an extraordinary breakthrough or step, a concrete form of the ideals of the press itself and the responsibility of the press in making the 2024 election a success.
"I think Mappilu must work professionally, still upholding its independence in a political situation like this. When working together with Bawaslu, it is expected to provide added value and contribution from the media to this country. Thus, it is expected to produce national leaders who are moral, honest, and in accordance with the people's expectations," he continued.
Meanwhile, the Head of Mappilu PWI Malang Raya, Muhaimin, said that the closest program is to hold training so that members of Mappilu PWI can carry out their duties well. "Next week, similar registration will be continued to Bawaslu Batu City and Malang Regency.
"Because the election stages are already underway, our hope is that after this we can be more optimal in monitoring. Friends in the field can immediately penetrate well," he explained.
