Starfruit (malangkota.go.id) – Mugai Ryu Indonesia held training and demonstrations at the Malang Creative Center (MCC) Building in Malang City, Sunday (4/6/2023). German Mugai Ryu instructor Maik Halmer was also present and collaborated to introduce the Japanese sword martial art.

Founder and trainer of Mugai Ryu Indonesia, Yohanes Vandi Kurniawan, said that the activity at MCC is a joint training. The goal is to improve the technical quality of the members and also to introduce this sport to the people of Malang City.
"We also brought in our senior from Germany, Maik Halmer, to share knowledge with the participants," explained Yohanes, Sunday (4/6).
In addition, this activity is also part of a promotional effort after Mugai Ryu Indonesia celebrated its first anniversary on June 1, 2023. In Malang City, Mugai Ryu has been doing routine training at the Brawijaya Museum every Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. "Hopefully we can develop Mugai Ryu better in Malang City and in various regions in Indonesia," Yohanes hoped.
Mugai Ryu, he said, was not merely to seek popularity, but to expand people's knowledge of martial arts so that they can find peace within themselves. In training, the main focus is on movement and breathing, so that participants are not affected by disturbances around them.
The sword used in Mugai Ryu is a katana, but in early training, the sword must be blunt and not sharp. Sharp swords are only used by trainers, and they must go through intense training.
Participation in this activity is also very limited, and participants must be over 15 years old because at that age, they tend to have better emotional calm than those under that age.
This June, Mugai Ryu Indonesia opens registration for new members, but every prospective member must go through a selection process. Not everyone can join, the selection is not based on economic status, but more on the mental aspect.
The main consideration is whether the individual who wants to learn will harm those around them or not, and whether they have impulsive tendencies. The goal is to create a positive impact and not harm those around them.
Mugai Ryu officially named Mugai Shinden Kenpo, was founded by Tsuji Getta Sukemochi on June 23, 1680. The Mugai Ryu curriculum consists of ten techniques for long swords and three techniques for short swords. (cah/yon)
