Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – The Department of Cooperatives, Industry, and Trade (Diskopindag) of Malang City will revitalize the book market on Jalan Wilis. This is done to provide comfort while fixing several areas that need to be repaired, such as the roof of the building which leaks when it rains.

Head of Diskopindag Malang City, Eko Sri Yuliadi revealed that to revitalize the Wilis Book Market, a budget of around Rp1,5 billion is needed. This budget will be used to polish the roof which will resemble a colonial or old-time style as well as several other additional facilities.
"Later we will fix the roof, we will make the model like a colonial style of the past (heritage) and also other facilities. Because in the market, books and paper are sold, so that is a priority. Later we will not change everything," said Eko, Monday (5/6/2023).
In the revitalization, it was also mentioned that there would be no addition or reduction in the number of tenants. The facilities provided will also be varied, and of course will add comfort to visitors and traders at the Wilis Book Market.
"In the book market there are around 150 tenants and the facilities are certainly adequate, such as toilets, prayer rooms, parking lots, if possible there will also be a coffee shop. It is also possible that there will be a reading corner. Of course in this revitalization we must improve the comfort of traders and buyers," added Eko.
In June, Eko said the revitalization process will begin and the traders will be relocated. The revitalization process is estimated to last for the next six months. "The relocation location is also not far, namely in the front parking lot of the Wilis Book Market," explained the friendly man.
"We will move it to the front parking lot, so it's not far. Because we know that if these traders are relocated, don't relocate them too far, it will be troublesome, just close by. Later, we will use plywood for the relocation, and it will take six months, if possible we will speed it up," he continued.
Furthermore, Eko said, regarding the revitalization of the book market, according to him, it has also been socialized to market traders. He believes that if they (traders) want and agree with the revitalization that will be carried out.
"This revitalization certainly improves from damaged to better, and I think all traders will be happy. Rather than damaged and leaking, so they are not comfortable when trading. If the place is nice, visitors will feel comfortable, and in the end the sales of traders will increase," concluded Eko. (say/yon)
