Malang City Becomes Destination for Study of Tolerance of Diversity

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – Deputy Mayor of Malang Ir. H. Sofyan Edi Jarwoko received a working visit from the Interfaith Harmony Forum (FKUB) of Balangan Regency, South Kalimantan Province in the context of a study tour related to living in the diversity of tribes, religions, and cultures in Malang City, at Malang City Hall, Wednesday (7/6/2023).

The Deputy Mayor of Malang who is also the Chair of the Advisory Board of the FKUB of Malang City said that Malang City was built on the basis of a high sense of togetherness. "Understanding the history of this city's founding, understanding the conditions is important for the success of carrying out the task of maintaining the conduciveness of the city. This is also truly guarded together with the government, figures, and the community. The Mayor always encourages us to do it together," he explained.

The man who is familiarly called Bung Edi continued that with the condition of Malang City being maintained to remain conducive, it will have an impact on other sectors of life. "The key is that, that as much as possible there are no social action issues, if there are any, they must be resolved quickly and appropriately. We really guard this," he said.

Another thing that drives the conduciveness of Malang City is the feeling of being one brother as expressed in Arema's slogan 'Salam Satu Jiwa'. "We have Arema which is quite helpful in maintaining a safe and controlled condition," he concluded.

Meanwhile, the Head of FKUB Balangan Regency, Supriadi said that Malang City is known as one of the cities that highly upholds tolerance between religious communities. Therefore, the group consisting of FKUB, Bakesbangpol, Kesra Section, and Kemenag Balangan Regency made Malang City a destination to conduct a study tour.

"We know that in Malang City, the people, although they come from various backgrounds, can live together in a safe, peaceful, and conducive situation. So we want to explore and learn how to implement religious harmony from Malang City so that we can apply it in Balangan Regency," said Supriadi. (ari/yon)
