Starfruit (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Government welcomed the DPR RI Communication and Performance Socialization Forum with the theme 'The Active Role of the Media and the DPR RI in Growing the Local Economy Through MSMEs and Malang Tourism' which was held at the Grand Mercure Malang Mirama Hotel, Malang City.
As conveyed by the Head of the Malang City Communication and Informatics Service (Diskominfo), Muhammad Nur Widianto, S.Sos. "The Mayor of Malang really appreciates this activity. There are programs that overlap and are in direct contact with MSMEs and tourism in Malang City," explained Wiwit, Muhammad Nur Widianto's nickname, Friday (9/6/2023).
He said, as the typical greeting of Malang people, namely Salam Satu Jiwa, that Malang City wants to move from Malang to Indonesia and the world. And this is in line with the notes related to MSMEs and tourism. Currently, the Malang City Government is institutionally invited by the Beijing Government and the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing regarding the promotion of MSMEs and tourism in Malang City.
Wiwit said that this is part of the commitment of the Mayor of Malang. "On behalf of the Malang City Government, we would like to express our gratitude for the trust in making Malang City one of the loci of the communication forum activities this afternoon. We are very happy, because this will definitely be an interesting promotion. You can imagine that there are 82 media outlets participating in this activity. What the media photograph, what the media writes will definitely enliven the pulse of Malang City," explained Wiwit.
He also hopes that this activity will not stop here, so there will be the next phase and stage to visit Malang City. A brief description of Malang City was also conveyed by the Head of Communication and Information, with an area of 112,063 square kilometers, has 57 sub-districts, five districts, and does not have natural tourism.
The natural tourism wealth in Bumi Arema, he said, is in Malang Regency, natural and artificial tourist attractions are also abundant in Batu City. Natural tourist attractions in Malang Regency and Batu City are very beautiful and extraordinary. "The beaches in Malang Regency are still very natural, no less than in Bali or Mataram. Likewise with Batu City, there are many natural and artificial attractions such as Jatim Park, Animal Museum, Transport Museum, and others that are the strength of tourism in the Apple City," he explained further.
Wiwit also said that Malang City does not have natural tourism, so what must be sold in Malang City is related to taste, such as culinary in Malang City. "There may be rawon in other areas, but rawon in Malang City definitely tastes different. Or maybe tahu campur with the Lamongan label but the taste is not necessarily as good as in Malang City. Once people have tasted culinary in Malang City, it definitely creates longing," explained Wiwit.
So one of the strengths of Malang City is in culinary. Malang City also has more than 60 universities. So to strengthen the strength of tourism in Malang City, universities are placed as one of the tourist targets called educational tourism.
Of the total 1,4 million residents living in Malang City, 400.000 of them are mostly immigrants and they are students. Every year there is also a cycle called graduation which can be held two to three times a year, and every graduation is definitely attended by family. You can imagine the circulation of money in this condition. So in addition to strengthening culinary tourism which is very close to what is called UMKM in Malang City, various event tourism according to him is important to develop.
Regarding tourism, Malang Regency, Batu City, and Malang City have a shared commitment in one unit of Malang Raya. The concept of Malang City development is Malang Raya because there are many intersections between Malang City and Batu City and also Malang Regency.
Meanwhile, for UMKM Malang City currently emphasizes the creative economy with 17 sub-sectors. Therefore, in the vision of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Malang, it is clearly stated to encourage economic growth in Malang City, including strengthening the creative economy, which includes UMKM.
