Mayor Sutiaji Enthusiastically Visits Plastic Waste Management Center to Become Fuel in China

Nanning, Guangxi (Malangkota.go.id) – Systematic waste processing in the Bamboo Curtain Country is increasingly attracting the attention of Mayor Sutiaji. Not only stopping at visiting the Waste Processing Place with Renewable Technology Transfer, Mayor Sutiaji continued his visit to the office and company of the waste processing center in Nanning City, Guangxi, Tuesday (13/6/2023).

Enthusiasm radiated from the face of the number one person in the Malang City Government. Because, this time Mayor Sutiaji was presented with the technology of processing plastic waste into fuel so that it can reduce environmental pollution.

"As we know, plastic waste has become a global pollution. It takes hundreds of years to decompose. It needs a solution to overcome it. And this time I looked at the processing of plastic waste into fuel, it's amazing," commented Mayor Sutiaji when contacted by telephone.

For your information, the plastic waste is processed into several types of fuel. Among them are fuel oil, gas fuel for power plants and carbon black which can be used for burning. This waste processing facility is equipped with the most modern technology and can process as much as 60 tons of plastic waste per day.

"The plastic materials here mostly come from household waste; such as plastic bags, shopping bags, plastic packaging. Then processed in such a way with various technologies to become three types of fuel. The waste turns into a blessing and its benefits are many times greater. Of course, it is a solution-oriented innovation, and we must pay attention to it to be implemented in Malang City," explained Mayor Sutiaji.

Furthermore, he explained that waste processing is part of waste management and according to Law number 18 of 2008 is defined as the process of changing the form of waste by changing the characteristics, composition, and amount of waste. Waste processing is an activity intended to reduce the amount of waste, in addition to utilizing the value still contained in the waste itself (recycled materials, other products, and energy) so that the waste has a use value.

"Of course, with this visit, I want Malang City to be able to utilize plastic waste more so that it can be useful, with plastic that can be used as fuel, it is possible that it can be used as fuel in household life," he explained.

In the future, if this technology is adopted in Malang City, Mayor Sutiaji hopes that there will be participation from the community and the Malang City Government to improve waste sorting management. "It must be accompanied by a commitment from upstream to downstream. The management must be systematic. Because with systematic waste sorting upstream, downstream it will facilitate the waste management process according to its materials. So that the output produced is also maximized," said Mayor Sutiaji.

Furthermore, Mayor Sutiaji also advised the public to be wiser in using plastic materials. "Of course, the public must also think twice about using plastic. What is still very much attached to our habits is the consumption of plastic bags. Consider the sustainability of these plastics if they have become waste. Can they be reprocessed or not. The technology we are learning here is indeed a solution to overcome the plastic problem. However, it would be better if we were wise in consuming plastic materials," said Mayor Sutiaji. (sfr)
