Commemorating World Blood Donor Day, PDDI Event Inundated with Donors

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – In order to commemorate World Blood Donor Day, the Indonesian Blood Donor Association (PDDI) of Malang City together with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of Malang City, and the TNI/Polri, held a blood donation at the Mini Block Office of Malang City Hall, Wednesday (14/6/2023).

Residents are very enthusiastic about donating their blood

In this activity, the enthusiasm of the community to donate their blood was extraordinary. Since it was opened at 09.00 WIB until 13.00 WIB, there were still residents queuing. PDDI targeted to get 200 blood bags but it seems they were able to get more than the target.

"Initially our target was only 200 bags, but if you look at the enthusiasm, it will increase by around 10 percent. Once the form has reached 200, we will automatically close it," explained Deputy Chairman of PDDI Malang City, Puryadi when met at the event location.

Puryadi explained that the requirements for donating blood are to have normal blood pressure and normal Hemoglobin (Hb). However, later on, screening will also be carried out first.

"Regarding this, because we do not yet know whether the blood is sterile or not, it will be screened first in the laboratory. During this health check, there will definitely be those who are rejected, either because their blood pressure is low or their Hb is low," he explained.

Then for the blood stock of all types, it was mentioned that currently in Malang City it is still safe and sufficient for the next week. Per day, PMI Malang City releases approximately 200 to 250 bags of blood.

"Alhamdulillah, the blood stock in Malang City is currently safe. So there will be no shortage for the next week. We also cannot predict the blood stock, at most we have stock for one week," added Puryadi.

In this activity, 18 beds were provided for blood donors and involved 25 health workers from PMI. Where, one blood collection officer served two beds, then the other health check workers, and administrative staff.

After donating blood, the blood donors also received a parcel containing a basic food package from the Bank Indonesia (BI) Malang Representative Office. (say/yon)
