Starfruit (malangkota.go.id) – The solar-powered electric motorbike created by SMKN 6 Malang City attracted the attention of visitors at the World Environment Day commemoration exhibition initiated by the Environmental Service (DLH) at the Malang Creative Center (MCC), Tuesday (20/6/2023).
Adiwiyata Coordinator of SMKN 6 Malang City, Sulaiman Sulang revealed that the solar-powered electric motorbike made by SMKN 6 Malang City students was named Gensalin Indonesia. The name means a climate-conscious generation which is a practical project of the students.
"Through the electric motorbikes made by our students, we want to convey the message that SMK 6 students are able to create works in the form of motorbikes that can be a solution to protecting the earth," explained Sulaiman, Tuesday (20/6/2023).
By using solar cells, Sulaiman said that this motorbike is a real solution in the current conditions where the infrastructure for charging electricity on the streets is still limited. By utilizing abundant solar energy, it is hoped that the motorbike made by SMKN 6 Malang City students will not run out of fuel during the trip.
"We have tried the electric motorcycle made by SMKN 6 when the sun is shining brightly, and the motorcycle runs well. However, its performance decreases when the sun is dim," said Sulaiman.
Based on this fact, currently the electric motor made by SMKN 6 in addition to using solar power also still uses power from household electricity. To fully charge the charger used, it takes 12 hours.
Intentionally, SMKN 6 Malang City continues to innovate by developing solar-powered electric motors so that students at the school will have more knowledge. The hope is that in the future they can become a generation that cares about the environment by developing vehicles that do not damage nature.
From an early age, students are also taught how to develop technological innovations that can help society. They can create an independent generation, have cheap, easy, and replicable innovations. (cah/yon)
