Deputy Minister of Trade, Jerry Sambuaga gives a speech during the Socialization of the Results of the International Trade Negotiations on Priority Issues of 'ASEAN CHAIRMANSHIP' 2023

The Mayor of Malang said that in the context of Malang City, this socialization is quite interesting. Of the three priority issues in the economic sector raised in Indonesia's chairmanship of ASEAN 2023, it is in Malang City.

"The first issue related to recovery and rebuilding, rebuilding the economy in the future is a national commitment and must be followed by the regions. Alhamdulillah, the economic growth of Malang City reached its highest point in the last decade in 2022, measured at 6,32 percent," explained Sutiaji.

Indonesia's chairmanship of ASEAN 2023 raised three priority issues in the economic sector, namely recovery and rebuilding, digital economy, and sustainability with reference to the main achievement targets that have been set.

"The Governor said that one of the economic pillars in Indonesia is East Java. And one of the pillars of East Java is Surabaya and Malang City. It is indeed seen that the economic growth of Malang City in the last decade is the highest at this time," explained the bespectacled man.

He further explained that the sector taken is quite interesting. Malang City is a city of trade and service so according to him it is very appropriate when the socialization of international trade which has become a commitment is implemented here.

"The second is related to the digitalization of the economy. In Malang City, there are 21 universities that have an IT base, which produce no less than thousands of graduates every year who are products of the campus. So when we talk about digitalization, God willing, it fits and fits because there is incubation here, the student output is also extraordinary plus the ecosystem has been well-built. Next, how to build the third, that is the sustainability of our concept," he explained.

Furthermore, Mayor Sutiaji said that in 2022, the growth rate of Malang City's creative economy experienced a fairly drastic spike, namely at 10,5 percent, while in 2021, Malang City's creative economy growth was at 4,7 percent.

"Our job is to build connectivity, build business partnerships that are already international in scope. Malang City has a lot of potential such as Bakso Malang, tempeh chips and other chips, as well as competitive UMKM products. Malang City is a Creative City that takes the application and game sub-sector. Strengthening e-commerce and digitalization continues to be carried out," he added.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Trade, Jerry Sambuaga, stated that he is ready to support and encourage the creative economic potential in Malang City.

"We support by continuing to coordinate with the mayor what we can do. We are ready, from the directorate to ensure from the start of promotion, business matching, introduction of exports abroad, where we have foreign trade representatives we maximize. Seeing the potentials that exist in Malang City, we will encourage it," he concluded. (yul/yon)
