Malang Mayor Opens Badminton Championship

The Mayor of Malang, who is also a badminton enthusiast, expressed his appreciation for the tournament that is an event to develop the sporting potential of young badminton players. Sutiaji hopes that through this kind of event, Malang City's badminton players can play a bigger role in the wider arena.

"Events like this, whether local, regional, national or international events held by friends can at least provide encouragement for badminton players in Malang City," he said.

The number one person in the Malang City Government also reminded that sports contain the values ​​of sportsmanship, enthusiasm, and togetherness. "Hopefully these values ​​can continue to be upheld by our athletes. Play with sportsmanship and enthusiasm, make this tournament an event to build togetherness, don't let there be hostility later because of losing and winning," he said.

PBSI Malang City Chairman, Heri Mursid Brotosejati said that this year's championship also involved communities and sub-districts. In this championship, it is hoped that new badminton seeds will be born to be able to represent Malang City in higher events such as the Porprov in September.

"In this event we can also see it as an evaluation of future athletes. I hope there will be many surprises that will be born as new champions. For the younger siblings, this is your chance to show the development and results of your training so far. In addition to the mission of achievement, this event is also intended to establish harmony between residents of the village so that they can be harmonious in one hobby," he said.

As a sign of the opening of this tournament, the Mayor of Malang made three serves in front of the participants who would compete. Participants who were able to get the shuttlecock received prizes from the committee. The Kejurkot which was attended by around 300 participants was held for four days, starting from June 22-25, 2023. (ari/yon)
