Starfruit (malangkota.go.id) – The animation industry is one of the creative economy sub-sectors that is now starting to be looked at by many. Animation is even predicted to be one of the potential creative economy industries that can be developed in Indonesia. The birth of quality Indonesian animators is a positive signal for the development of this industry.
In Malang City, there are now many animators with a variety of quality works. Some of them are even involved in making international animated films. Of course, these animators will be able to continue to develop with a supportive ecosystem and habitat. The existence of animation studies is also important to support animators' work.
It is Zeus Animation, an animation studio located in Malang City. Engaged in advertising and multimedia, Zeus Animation's main focus is producing motion graphic animations for 2D and 3D Explainer Video needs.
Established since 2016, Zeus Animation was born from the dream of a group of creative young people who wanted to develop the animation industry in Malang Raya. The animation studio located on Jalan Kresno No. 1 Polehan, Malang City started from a small team consisting of five people, but now there are 10 core teams and more than 20 freelancers.
"Alhamdulillah, until now we have been able to develop, known by many local and international companies. We used to be facilitated by the government, and now we can stand on our own," said Zeus Animation leader, Muchammad Muwaffaq.
Not only business-oriented, Zeus Animation is also committed to sharing knowledge and providing benefits to the community. There are more than 100 interns from various universities and vocational schools who are also involved in this studio. "For now, we are also open to internship programs or startup guidance from schools/universities/the public, with the aim of improving and producing new creative human resources who are ready to work by opening internship classes, we are sure that Indonesia will have reliable human resources," he explained.
Many works have been produced, including animated advertising videos (explainer videos), educational YouTube series for children, and various game and animation assets. The products produced are always adjusted to client requests. However, Zeus Animation's advantage is its short production time.
"We have worked on projects from Microsoft Group, WHO and other large companies and startups that we have made animated videos for. On average, we produce one animation for 7-14 days. With production milestones starting from script writing, storyboarding, animating, and compositing as well as revisions, to delivering the project," he explained.
Some time ago, the Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji, in between his official agendas, took the time to visit this animation studio. The Mayor of Malang also greatly appreciated the existence of the Zeus animation studio and other animation studios because they will produce creative and innovative young people. "This animation is part of the 17 sub-sectors of the creative economy which is also the focus of Malang City which has been ordained as a creative city in the fields of film and games," said Sutiaji.
