UM Targets Overall Champion of East Java Pomprov II

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – The 2023 East Java Provincial Student Sports Week (Pomprov) II, held in Jember Regency, officially started today, Saturday (15/7/2023) to Saturday (22/7/2023).

In the implementation of Pomprov Jatim I, Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) won 44 gold medals, 23 silver medals, and 33 bronze medals and made UM the overall champion. For the Pomprov II Jatim 2023 event, UM will again send a contingent delegation with a total of 282 people.

Of the total number of delegates, 218 athletes were taken from all UM faculties and are ready to compete in 19 sports. Among them are athletics, badminton, indoor volleyball, sand volleyball, basketball, bridge, chess, e-sports, futsal, karate, rock climbing, pencak silat, and other sports.

UM Rector, Prof. Dr. Hariyono, M.Pd confirmed that in the event last year UM became the overall champion. He also hopes that this year the UM contingent can become champion again.

"We hope that the athletes can pass on their knowledge and competitive experience, not only for themselves, but also for their juniors so that there is regeneration. Alhamdulillah, there are representatives in all faculties. This proves that sports do not only belong to FIK, but also to UM together," he said.

Meanwhile, UM's Director of Student Affairs and Alumni Dr. Heny Kusdiyanti, MM, Saturday (15/7/2023) said that the athletes had been participating in training camps for one and a half to two months.

"We are targeting to achieve 41 gold medals and UM to become the overall champion again. Pomprov II is also one of the selections to represent East Java to Pomnas XVIII in South Kalimantan in November 2023," he said. (say/yon)
