Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – The signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding the establishment of the Youth Red Cross (PMR) in the school environment was carried out by the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of Malang City with the Malang City Government, in this case the Education and Culture Office (Disdikbud) of Malang City. This signing was carried out on the sidelines of the UDD PMI Malang City Blood Donor Group Meeting at the Savana Hotel, Malang City, Monday (17/7/2023).

Present at this event were the Mayor of Malang Drs. H. Sutiaji, Chairman of the Malang City DPRD I Made Rian Diana Kartika, Head of the Malang City Education and Culture Office Suwarjana. On this occasion, the Mayor of Malang also presented awards to active blood donors at the Malang City PMI.
Mayor Sutiaji revealed that in a year the need for blood from PMI Malang City is very high. In one year, he said that PMI Malang City needs at least 77.000 blood bags, or at least around 200 blood bags per day.
"The Malang City PMI needs so much blood stock, so good collaboration with various parties is needed, including today's activities," explained Sutiaji, Monday (17/7/2023).
According to him, public awareness for blood donation must also continue to be increased, one of which is through activities that can increase literacy related to blood donation. He said that by donating blood, the person will not lose, but will become healthier and his life will be more blessed.
"Blood donation is a very noble activity. That is why we fully support blood donation activities," added Sutiaji.
The importance of increasing public literacy regarding blood donation is strongly emphasized by the Mayor of Malang because according to him, there are still few citizens who know about the benefits of blood donation for body health. "We continue to provide literacy to the public so that they like to donate blood," explained the bespectacled man.
Meanwhile, the Head of PMI Malang City, Imam Bukhori said that blood service is not an easy task for his party. Because the need for blood at PMI Malang City is also used to meet the needs in the Malang Raya, Blitar, Pasuruan, Probolinggo and even Makassar areas.
"The demand for blood in one year is approximately 77.000 bags, every day we have to get donor donations of between 150 to 200 bags of blood so that the demand for blood for transfusion can be met," explained Imam.
However, it was mentioned that thanks to the support of all blood donor groups, the need for blood at PMI Malang City has been met so far. That is why the friendship between PMI Malang City and blood donor representatives is very important so that two-way communication can occur.
He said that the challenge of meeting the current blood supply needs is not only about the adequacy of the number of blood bags, but more than that, the main concern is its quality. (cah/yon)
