Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – Utilizing the limited land he has, Yahya Nurcahyo developed the cultivation of Balitbangtan's Superior Village Chicken (KUB Chicken). In his house located on Jl Jaksa Agung Suprapto 1D, Yahya developed a type of chicken that is the result of research from the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture's Agricultural Research and Development Center.
Yahya Nurcahyo revealed that he deliberately developed this KUB chicken because its prospects are very good. KUB chicken also has various advantages, one of which is a faster harvest age, between 70 days to 90 days.
"In addition, even though the selling price of the meat is more expensive than broiler chicken, KUB kampung chicken is still widely sought after because the taste is delicious and more savory," explained Yahya, Tuesday (18/7/2023).
As time went by and there were so many requests, Yahya joined the Malang Raya Village Chicken Farmers Community (Kompak). By joining the community, he said he can now develop his business with a wider network. "Even though we have joined the community, we still can't meet customer needs," said Yahya.
Yahya said that despite having good meat prices and a very good market, KUB chicken farming also has obstacles to its development. The very cannibalistic nature of KUB chickens means that farmers must be extra careful when cultivating them. "If you are a little late in feeding, this type of KUB chicken will immediately gang up on its friends to death," Yahya said.
Yahya further said that in addition to fast harvest and high meat selling price, this KUB chicken has another advantage, namely high egg production. Because the demand for eggs is also very HIGH. "To serve one STMJ stall, in just one day 100 KUB chicken eggs are immediately sold out. That's why in addition to being a meat chicken, we are currently also continuing to develop KUB chickens for laying eggs," said Yahya.
From experience so far, since hatching with good care, KUB chickens can only lay eggs after five and a half months. "When they have laid eggs, KUB chickens from our experience can still lay eggs well until they are two years old. After that, they are culled and will be sold as meat chickens," explained Yahya.
