Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – Deputy Mayor of Malang Ir. H. Sofyan Edi Jarwoko appreciated the implementation of the Journalist Competency Test (UKW) led by the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) of Malang Raya which took place from 21-23 July 2023 at IKIP Budi Utomo Malang.
According to him, this UKW is very important and a must for every journalist to work more competently and professionally. Moreover, currently the advancement of information technology, especially social media is very rapid. "So the role of journalists as a reference for information for the public is also very much needed," said the Deputy Mayor after the opening of the UKW PWI Malang Raya Batch 51, Friday (21/7/2023).
The man who is often called Bung Edi said that the media is one of the pillars of democracy, so that the existence of the press also colors the joints of democracy in this country.
"I also appreciate the PWI Malang Raya which has intensively held UKW. This is a positive step, because journalists are also our partners in government. In this case, whatever the government program is, without news, it will not be conveyed to the public," said Bung Edi.
Furthermore, the bespectacled man said, if journalists are declared competent by the Press Council, then in presenting it will be balanced and actual. "In an era like today, information is one of the needs of society, so the media will play a big role in it," concluded Bung Edi. (say/yon)
