Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – 36 journalists from various media platforms took part in the Journalist Competency Test (UKW) organized by the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) Malang Raya at the IKIP Budi Utomo Malang campus. The 51st UKW batch began on July 21-23, 2023 and was attended by a number of journalists from outside East Java, such as from South Sulawesi, Jakarta and East Nusa Tenggara.

After the opening of the UKW, Friday (21/7/2023), the Head of PWI Malang Raya, Cahyono, hopes that there will be more journalists who are certified, competent and professional when carrying out their journalistic work. In addition to being a mandate from the Press Council, he said that this UKW is a must and a necessity for every journalist.
"For UKW, we do have regulations given by the Press Council, so that fellow journalists who are still working in media companies are required to follow. This means that when he passes UKW, he can be declared a professional journalist," added Cahyono.
The seriousness of PWI Malang Raya in holding this competency test received appreciation from the Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji. After giving direction to the participants, the Mayor of Malang advised journalists to have competence, strategy and be willing to continue learning, including this competency test in it.
The number one person in the Malang City Government said that if there used to be a pentahelix concept, now in Malang City the concept has become hexahelix and one of them is the media. "The media provides literacy, education and provides advocacy, so the media must be a partner, especially the government," said the bespectacled man. (say/yon)
