Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – The term of office of the Mayor of Malang Drs. H. Sutiaji and the Deputy Mayor of Malang Ir. H. Sofyan Edi Jarwoko will end on September 24, 2023. So from September 25, 2023 until the inauguration of the new Mayor and Deputy Mayor, the position of Mayor of Malang will be filled by an official.

In relation to this, the Malang City DPRD held a Plenary Meeting with the agenda of the Proposal for the Dismissal of the Mayor of Malang and Deputy Mayor of Malang for the 2018-2023 period in the Plenary Room of the Malang City DPRD, Thursday (27/7/2023). This plenary meeting is a requirement for submitting a letter of dismissal to the East Java Provincial Government and the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri).
That was what was conveyed by the Chairperson of the Malang City DPRD I Made Rian Diana Kartika after leading a plenary meeting. After the proposal letter was signed by the secretary, deputies and the Chairperson of the DPRD, then today it will also be sent to the East Java Provincial Government and the Ministry of Home Affairs. "Based on the letter from the Ministry of Home Affairs, by September 9, 2023 at the latest there must be three candidates for mayor who will later be narrowed down to one name," he added.
Before that, Made said that the Malang City DPRD, East Java Provincial Government and the Ministry of Home Affairs would propose three names for the selection. "Currently, we have collected five names that we will later write to and call to ask for their willingness, and undergo selection so that later three people will be collected," he explained.
Made further said that his party would not add any more of the five candidates. While one of the criteria is a high-ranking official or echelon 2. "What is certain is that from the five people, we will not take them from outside the Malang City Government so that later they will really understand the character and what is needed," he continued.
In relation to this, Malang Mayor Sutiaji said that this kind of process already has clear rules and is a common thing. "We will follow the process, and whoever is chosen is the best," he said after attending the plenary meeting.
When asked what the elected mayor should continue, the bespectacled man said there was still a lot of homework to be done. Such as how to prevent flooding, reduce traffic congestion and increase Local Original Income (PAD).
"Although our term of office will end, nothing has changed from me or Mr. Edi. This means that everything is running normally, and we will continue to give our best and continue the development program until September 24. We are public servants, and there is no other word than to give our best and complete our term of office," concluded Sutiaji. (say/yon)
