Hayono Isman revealed that Mas Isman was the Commander of the East Java TRIP when defending independence in 1945-1949. On November 5, 2015, President Joko Widodo awarded the title of National Hero to Mas Isman based on Presidential Decree No. 116/TK/2015 to appreciate his services.

Mas Isman's career includes being the commander of the People's Security Agency (BKR) Surabaya and also TRIP which was inaugurated on January 27, 1946, also commanded by him. While TRIP's most well-known resistance was when fighting the Dutch on Jalan Salak, Malang City.

Mas Isman was given the title of national hero through a long process. "Indeed, after becoming the commander of TRIP East Java, Mas Isman was active in the TNI, led various organizations, became a member of the DPR, became the General Chairperson of Kosgoro. In my opinion, the consideration for the title of hero is because he represents TRIP," said Hayono.

What is so special about TRIP? Hayono said that there were 35 TRIP members who died while fighting against the Dutch troops to defend independence. While their ages were still 12 to 18 years old, the same age as students in Malang City.

The extraordinary courage shown by the students in Malang City at that time by continuing to contribute to their nation so that they could maintain independence. "So in my opinion, TRIP Commander Mas Isman and the students at that time had courage that is worthy of emulation," said Hayono.

It was conveyed that the TRIP heroes had a champion mentality so that they could seize independence even though the weapons were not balanced. Therefore, Hayono advised today's students to have and cultivate a champion mentality to continue to fill independence with positive things. (cah/yon)
