Breadfruit (malangkota.go.id) – In the Official Statistics News (BRS) which was followed online, Monday (1/8/2023), the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Malang City recorded an increase in the inflation rate of 0,19 percent. The Coordinator of Distribution Statistics of BPS Malang City, Dwi Handayani, mentioned several events that affected the inflation rate in July 2023.
Starting from weather phenomena to government policies. These events include relatively low rainfall in Dasarian-I and II in July 2023, then, the start of the new school year for school children, as well as the Government's policy regarding the adjustment of fuel prices (BBM) for Pertamax Turbo, Dexlite and Pertamina Dex types as of July 1, 2023, and also influenced by the policy of Bank Indonesia (BI) which maintains the BI 7-Day Reverse Repo Rate (BI7DRR) at 5,75% since January 19, 2023.
Dwi said that month-to-month inflation from July 2023 to June 2023 in Malang City reached 0,19%, above the record for East Java, where the inflation rate reached 0,15% but was lower than the national month-to-month inflation rate of 0,21%.
Malang City was recorded as the city with the highest inflation rate among eight cities/regencies in East Java for July 2023. Meanwhile, the lowest inflation was in Banyuwangi Regency with an inflation rate of 0,04 percent, and Sumenep Regency experienced deflation of -0,08 percent.
"The group that gave the highest inflation rate in July was the Education group at 0,72%, which was caused by an increase in elementary school fees, high school fees, junior high school fees and tutoring fees," he explained.
In second place that contributed to the increase in inflation by 0,48% was the transportation group, namely airfare and online two-wheeled vehicle fares for July, as well as the increase in gasoline and diesel fuel prices. Meanwhile, broiler chicken meat still contributed to inflation. Based on BPS data, the food, beverage, and tobacco group became the group with the third highest inflation rate in the July record yesterday with an inflation rate reaching 0,24%.
"The food component in July experienced a slowdown compared to the previous month which experienced inflation of 0,5%. This increase was driven by the increase in the price of broiler chicken, garlic, dragon fruit, and chicken eggs," he explained again.
Meanwhile, the year-to-year inflation rate for Malang City for July 2023 compared to July 2022 was 3,07%. This figure is recorded as lower than the East Java inflation rate of 4,11% and also the national inflation rate of 3,08%. Meanwhile, for the year-to-date inflation rate where the price of goods is compared between July 2023 and December 2022, the Malang City inflation rate rose by 1,41%. This figure is also recorded as still lower than the achievements of East Java and the nation which reached 1,60% and 1,45%. (iu/yon)
