"First, I reminded you that the identity and character of this child are important so that this child becomes strong, solid, has principles. Even though the world outside is very harsh, if this child has courage, attitude, character, of course he will be able to protect himself," said Deputy Mayor Sofyan Edi in his speech.
On this occasion, the man who is often called Bung Edi recounted one of the important historical events in Malang City that occurred on July 31st. The history is about the death of 35 junior high school/high school students, namely the Indonesian Student Republic Army (TRIP) on the Jalan Salak battlefield. The hope is that the children of Malang City who are the successors of the nation can be inspired and emulate the spirit and struggle of the heroes.
"Character education to shape children's identity is important in facing current situations such as violence against children, bullying and so on. This will not happen if these children are strong, if these children have power, in terms of character or identity," he added.
Bung Edi invites everyone to make this momentum a starting point for giving birth to children who have great souls, have character but also have achievements, good intellectual abilities and spiritual abilities.
"Thank you to all organizations and institutions that care about children, who always work to protect children, including activists, individuals, and institutions that work together with the government to produce great children," said the Deputy Mayor in appreciation.
He emphasized that the Malang City Government continues to strengthen its commitment and efforts so that the role it plays is getting better day by day. The Deputy Mayor explained that Malang City is the only district/city in East Java that has a Thematic Musrenbang, one of which is the Children's Thematic Musrenbang.
"So what are the needs of these children, their hopes, discussed, heard and included in the development planning in Malang City. Accommodated in the APBD, so not only from top to bottom, but also bottom up attended by the children themselves, child observers, social NGOs and so on. So the programs in the APBD are truly in accordance with the hopes of our children," he explained.
The Deputy Mayor also advised all children, especially in Malang City to inherit the character of the Malang youth, which can be emulated from the TRIP Heroes. Emulating the spirit of patriotism, courage, love of the homeland, solidarity, and fighting spirit. "Answer today's challenges with achievements, continue to improve your intellect, strengthen your character and don't forget your spirituality," he concluded. (yul/yon)
