Breadfruit (malangkota.go.id) – To commemorate the Islamic New Year 1 Muharram 1445 Hijri, the Jati Gembol Association, Sukun District, Malang City held an Earth Alms (Nyadran) event, Thursday (3/8/2023). The Earth Alms procession began with a procession that started at the Lentera Garden Courtyard, Sukun Pondok Indah Housing, Bandungrejosari Village and finished at Punden Jati Gembol.
Present on this occasion were Deputy Mayor of Malang Ir. H. Sofyan Edi Jarwoko, member of the Malang City DPRD Wanedi and community leader H. Moch. Anton.
The Deputy Mayor of Malang expressed his appreciation for the holding of the earth charity activity which is a tradition that continues to be preserved. He said that activities like this are an effort to preserve culture as well as a form of gratitude from the Kemantren community in Bandungrejosari Village. "Grateful for the gift from Allah SWT after going through the Covid-19 pandemic. Alhamdulillah, we are still given health so that we are still given the opportunity to do activities until now," said the man who is often called Bung Edi, Thursday (3/8/2023).
Bung Edi said that during the two years of the global Covid-19 pandemic, many colleagues, relatives, and residents had died from being infected by the virus. Therefore, on this occasion, the community together prayed to Allah SWT. "Hopefully in the future we will all always be given health, safety and also blessings in living our lives," said Bung Edi praying.
In addition to the cultural preservation procession, various other activities were also held at Punden Jati Gembol. Such as joint prayers, giving alms to orphans, fireworks, and a night-long wayang kulit performance with Dalang Ki Ardhi Purbo Antono who performed the play Gatotkaca Winisuda. (cah/yon)
