Lowokwaru (malangkota.go.id) – The management of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) of Malang City held an audience with the Mayor of Malang Drs. H. Sutiaji at the Tunggulwulung Seed Garden, Lowokwaru, Tuesday (22/8/2023). KONI Malang City on this occasion conveyed the optimism of the Malang City contingent in facing the 2023 East Java VIII Porprov.
The Chairman of KONI Malang City, Djoni Sujatmiko, revealed that the Malang City contingent had prepared themselves thoroughly to participate in the 2023 East Java VIII Porprov which will be held in four locations, namely Sidoarjo, Mojokerto City, Mojokerto Regency, and Jombang.
"The 2023 East Java Porprov competition will take place on September 9-16, 2023, although several sports have competed earlier," said Djoni.
One of the sports that has departed and competed in the 2023 Porprov is pencak silat, whose matches started earlier in Jombang. This news is a reminder that several sports will face a longer schedule. Djoni said that the Malang City contingent will then depart on September 4, 2023. "We hope that the Mayor of Malang will also accompany the Malang City contingent directly on September 4, 2023," Djoni hoped.
After conducting monitoring and evaluation, Djoni stated that the Malang City Contingent at Porprov 2023 is projected to secure 76 gold medals. This figure is higher than the achievement at the previous Porprov where Malang City managed to win 70 gold medals.
For silver medals, Djoni estimates that Malang City will win 74 silver medals at Porprov 2023, which is an increase from the 67 silver medals obtained at the previous Porprov. As for bronze medals, the projection at Porprov 2023 is that Malang City has the opportunity to win 88 bronze medals, an increase compared to the achievement of 72 bronze medals at the previous Porprov.
Based on observations made, apart from the city of Surabaya which has been the overall champion, for the competition in the 2023 East Java VIII Porprov, several regions will compete for second place, including Sidoarjo and Kediri.
Despite having good achievement projections and having made thorough preparations, Djoni admitted that achieving achievements in Porprov 2023 is not an easy task. Achievement requires hard work, solidarity, and high fighting spirit to achieve the desired dream.
The Malang City contingent consists of 853 people, including 639 athletes and 160 coaches who will compete in 49 sports from a total of 53 sports competed in the 2023 East Java VIII Porprov. (cah/yon)
